Tummy tuck surgery, also known as abdominoplasty, removes excess fat and skin and, in most cases, restores weakened or separated muscles creating an abdominal profile that is smoother and firmer. Even individuals of otherwise normal body weight and proportion can develop an abdomen that protrudes or is loose and sagging. The most common causes of this include:
- Pregnancy
- Aging
- Heredity
- Prior surgery
- Significant fluctuations in weight

This procedure is also known as a mini-tummy tuck. It addresses the loose skin below the belly button only. It does not tighten around or above the belly button and it does not involve correcting the separated abdominal muscles (whereas a full abdominoplasty does). The incision is in the same location as a full tummy tuck although not as long. The scar hides very well under your bikini or underwear. Mini-abdominoplasties are performed at our clinic with a combination of oral sedation and local anesthetic.
Recovery is very tolerable – about 3 weeks before resuming exercise.
